Child and Adolescent Groups
These groups help adolescents in a variety of ways:
- To receive emotional support
- To resolve conflicts with people
- To understand feelings and problems
- To manage feelings
- To try out new solutions to old problems.
Group goals may be specific e.g. change in behaviour, improved relations with friends or family or more general e.g. less anxiety, better self-esteem.
The group therapy enables adolescents to express their feelings and thoughts and receive help in managing these more effectively. Initially within the safe environment of the group, with the aim of transferring these new skills to their relationships outside the group i.e. at school, with friends and family.
Activities involve games, videos as well as talking which are all effective ways of sharing feelings and resolving problems.
